Hello dear viewer of this devlog, I hope you are having a fantastic day, and if not I hope it becomes fantastic!
Bella Factionum has been published, and now it's time to improve it, with Phase 2.1 being the first official update to the game!
The Major Changes are:
- Squads can shoot "through each other" now, instead of their vision being hindered by other Squads in their way. This might seem like a bug fix, but this single improvement singlehandedly increased my enjoyment of Bella Factionum, allowing me to start wanting to play it for fun, not just to debug. I hope it does the same for you!
- Rank Presets - have you created a set of rank names and symbols for a Faction, e.g. some Fictional Military Insignia, that you want to apply to many different factions, but can't stand the tedium of loading symbols in one-by-one? That's where Rank Presets come in - you can save and load different sets of Faction Ranks, allowing for quick reuse. And, if that isn't enough, you can also invert their color, and dye them different colors, allowing you to use the same basic symbols, but recolor them for your own uses!
- Improvement of Top-level Information - previously, the UI at the Top of the Screen for the Player showed their Number of Resources and their Number of Squads. There have been several improvements to that:
- The Player is also shown the Number of Points their Faction controls
- The labels for these quantities also show the change, which means you can see your Resource Income, and, if someone invaded you outside your field of view, or slaughtered many of your Squads, that'll be visible also with a sudden decrease.
- A QoL Change - when you CTRL + Right Click with a group of squads selected, squads will be deselected such that at least 1 Squad is left behind at all Points, so that Squads don't just abandon them. And no more. Previously, if no Squads were near any points, one squad would be left behind anyway - that's removed, if there are no points Squads need to hold, none of them will be deselected, so feel free to CTRL + Right Click by default when sending Squads somewhere!
There have also been a host of bugfixes and improvements:
- When the Gamerule for Faction Abilities is turned off, AI Factions can no longer still use abilities
- When you select Maps to play on, the Maximum no. Factions is also listed
- When CTRL is held down, the Priority Labels on Points are correctly-updated
- The Bombardment Ability's Particle Effect has been improved (the particles don't all disappear suddenly)
- In the Scenario Editor, when a Faction being edited/created is confirmed, the Faction Editor is then cleared, removing confusion when the Editor is reopened
- If the Player Creates Factions in a Scenario, doesn't give them any points, and then saves the Scenario, those Factions no longer get deleted
- In the Map Editor Instructions, there is now mention of the User being able to use a Grid (the Grid was there before, it wasn't necessarily obvious though)
I hope you enjoy the improved Bella Factionum - I know I did, and that's saying something!
